Designer Ieva comes home from the prestigious exhibition Heimtextil 2019 in Frankfurt with plenty of impressions

RIPO designer Ieva went to Heimtextil 2019, the largest international exhibition in the industry, looking for experience and inspiration. The exhibition is known throughout the world with great presentations from world production leaders displaying their interior textiles, interior design solutions as well as current and future trends.

The main theme this year was especially interesting – UTOPIA. The overall motive of the exhibition reflected 5 future life concepts – PURSUE PLAY inviting to have fun and play around; SEEK SANCTUARY seeking peace and sanctuary in the rapid pace of today’s world; OFF-GRID encouraging to get off the web and test yourself against new challenges; ESCAPE REALITY pitching an idea of conquering the digital universe; and EMBRACE INDULGENCE inviting to contemplate your attitude about luxury.

Although the exhibition took place at the beginning of January, in the very heart of winter cold, Ieva noticed that tropical atmosphere dominated in most of the stands. The range of possibilities is undoubtfully never-ending, but Ieva, after thorough considerations, highlights the following most noteworthy trends dominating in the wallpaper and textile collections of various brands.

Tropical motives.

Banana leaves, palm branches and exotic flowers in both textiles and wallpapers. Textiles displayed these motives in bright and saturated colors, but wallpapers were mostly dominated by smoky and pastel colors. The plant motives even took a step forward and incorporated animal themes, picturing animals hiding behind leaves and tree branches. There are also new shapes finding their way in the design products – artichoke, Ginkgo Biloba leaves, ferns and fan-shaped ornaments.

Wall panels.

There is no doubt anymore that wall panels have become a truly trendy design object displaying a myriad of motives. The exposition mostly showed wall panels with plants and birds, but the most important factor here still is the size and message which these wall panels convey in the room, harmoniously cohabiting within the environment and giving a sense of wholeness.

Geometry.

Geometrical shapes of various sizes and color combinations are still at the peak of their popularity. Ieva notes that the main purpose of geometrical shapes is to uphold the meaning of sustainable interior design, showing that a combination of texture and abstract ornament can be used to obtain a highly pleasant atmosphere. When addressing geometry, one must talk about three-dimensionality highlighted with the glow of gold or caper, giving the room a truly magical feeling.

The leading brands every year try to surprise with the layout of their expositions. To explain, Ieva gives a nice example that moss – a thing that every Latvian knows by heart – can be used in decoration of an exposition as a symbol, inviting to seek closer relationships with nature, feel the materials not only with eyes, but also through their texture, with your touch and senses.
