On your way towards a new kitchen. Design tricks for large and small kitchens. How to get more!

Interior designers with vast experience in crafting many kitchen projects and facing various situations are the best placed to know many tricks and solutions for planning a new kitchen. This time it is RIPO furniture and interior designer Jana who shares her approaches and advices on how to improve and make the kitchen design better.

Things must be done in the right order.

If you plan to redesign your kitchen, visit the salon beforehand. To get the kitchen of your dreams, you might need to add a couple of wall sockets or relocate engineering communications. All of this must be planned before starting the kitchen redesign.

Finish.

When looking for the right finishing materials and colours, you need to make a decision whether you want to put more emphasis on certain accessories in the room, colourful devices or the kitchen itself. The designer urges not to overcrowd the space with multi-coloured prints and textures. The space will look visually cleaner and lighter with well-balanced and natural colours which can be refreshed with few accents.

Fittings.

Do not attempt to save money on fittings that can ease and speed up work in the kitchen. Make the best of your opportunity to visit expositions in RIPO showrooms and open/close all drawers, upper and lower cabinets. This is how you can decide what type of drawers or cabinets are the most suitable for you.

Drawers.

If you have no intention to store in the kitchen something heavy, choose drawers for the lower cabinets instead of a shelving system.  This choice will make it easier to access everything and you will not need to remove the things in front to reach something in the depths of the shelve.

Wall sockets.

Plan a sufficient number of wall sockets and put in some extra ones too. Bear in mind that you will also need at least two extra wall sockets for permanent devices, like kettle, microwave oven, coffeemaker and others.

Handles.

Integrated and minimalistic handles are highly trendy now. Remember that carefully picked handles can have a positive impact on the overall look of your kitchen giving it some character.

Domestic appliances.

Pay proper attention to the manuals of the purchased domestic appliances. For example, did you know that certain manufacturers recommend switching on your cooker hood 5 minutes before cooking for it to be capable of properly do its job?

If you opt in favour of built-in kitchen appliances, you will reach better harmony with identical-colour surface appliances. The exact colour of stainless steel can differ from manufacturer to manufacturer, so it is better to use a single manufacturer whenever possible.

Curtains or blinds.

If the kitchen appliances are to be placed next to windows, people sometimes forget to include space for curtains or blinds. Check that you have left some space for, let’s say, a curtain rod and make sure that curtains/blinds do not interfere with opening your oven. It is also important to pick a material which melts and not burns in contact with open flame.

Remember!

One size does not fit all! Think about what you liked in your previous kitchen and what made it difficult or uncomfortable to work in there. If you collaborate with a kitchen designer, these things must be addressed. The more information designers have, the better they are placed to make the kitchen perfectly suitable for you!
